Being Real
Last week I facilitated a particularly uplifting group coaching session for my new program How to Be True to Yourself at Work.
In the session we explored our true nature – our core, our essence. The person beneath all the protective layers of personality.
I posed the question: Who are you being when you’re being most yourself?
There were many new insights that emerged through our conversation.
One participant shared the following insight: “I’m often the “right” version of me, rather than the real version of me.”
Can you relate?
I know I can.
Working life can feel like one long masterclass on how to fit it, how to please and appease. How not to be inconvenient or inadequate.
But what if true leadership flows from being who you are, not changing who you are? What if everything you need is already inside of you?
By honouring who we authentically are at work (and in life) we feel alive and uplifted. Our performance become sustainable and we cultivate cultures of true belonging.
The challenge for so many of us is that we have lost line-of-sight to who we really are.
To help, I invite you to reflect on the following questions. Your answers just might illuminate your path back to being real.
- What makes your heart sing?
- What makes you feel most alive?
- What does your pet see in you?
- What sparks joy for you?
- How would your best friend describe you?
- What would your colleagues write about you on a farewell card?
- How do you feel when you feel most yourself?
- Who is the “you” that emerges in moments of loving presence?
- Who are you being when you’re being most yourself?
Are you an unofficial authenticity ambassador in your organisation?
If you are a big-hearted leader who believes that our sense of belonging at work depends on feeling free to be ourselves authentically and imperfectly – I would love to talk to you.
Now more than ever we need leaders to boldly embody their authenticity and uniqueness. We can say “We are an inclusive workplace” a million times. But until leaders are empowered and enabled to honour who they authentically are at work, these remain empty words.
For a short time only, I am offering introductory pricing on my new program “How to Be True to Yourself at Work”.
I would love to explore how we might bring this transformative evidence-based learning experience to your organisation. If you feel this might be valuable opportunity for your team, please reach out.
I am loving being part of your program. Our group sessions are an affirming and safe space to do the important work of self-leadership.
